Beyond showing up, studying, and being good in sport, I'd like to see rewards for the development of kids' values, heart & soul.
And, as a father of four, I believe that education, in a broader sense, should ALSO include emotional and interpersonal education, preparing our youth to function in a difficult and challenging world.
In addition to the "usual" awards, in order to have a mentally healthy and strong future for our society, I'd like to see awards (at all grade levels) for:
Most Compassionate
Most Forgiving
Most Optimistic
Most Supportive of Others
Most Resilient
Most Perseverant
Least Judgmental
Best Listener
Passing tests, showing up, and being good in athletics is one thing. Encouraging and raising good people is another. Human and moral values are universal. Let's teach them, too!
We can teach emotional intelligence! We can teach forgiveness!
Let's reward & raise good people...for the mental health, sanity, and strength of our society.
Do you have any suggestions for rewards for our educational system?
