If a child is choking on a big chuck of food and his/her breathing becomes impared, they’re likely to turn a little blue. Is their blue face the enemy? Should we dispise kids with blue faces? Should we parade images of blue faces across every TV screen or socialmedia outlet? Should we strike fear into all kids that they could look like THIS!!Should we have a war against kids with blue faces? No. Eating and then choking IS the problem! The blue face is NOT the problem.

Obesity is a result of many complicated factors. And, yes, obesity is a risk factor for many ills. But, ultimately, it’s simply a lagging indicator of too many calories in versus calories out. So, why do we have a war on obesity? Shouldn’t our efforts be directed at what’s causing the relative overconsumption of calories?
Obesity is a result…NOT the problem. Shouldn’t we be heading upstream, to solve the problem of why too many consume too many calories? Isn’t the real problem about choice and what complicating factors converge together at a moment in time to affect that choice? We either choose healthy or we don’t…on a minute-by-minute, day-by-day, month-by-month, year-by-year basis.
Should we even have a war against obesity? How about a war on blue faces?
