Much much more than a general health site and cartoon character, think of me as the ”Smokey Bear” of health…a crusader and fighter for truth in the world of health and health policy, nutrition and nutrition policy, and a battler against ALL those that intentially manipulate and deceive (they call it advertising) the weak and uneducated into making unhealthy decisions. Relax. Look around. Have some fun. There’s some good stuff here.
I’m here to fight for YOU and those you care about. My weapon of choice…well-researched TRUTH about health. As you browse the site and my blogs, you’ll find me to be a caring, yet hard-nosed, tenacious, and irreverent crusader for health…with a slightly off-center sense of humor and irony. My ”Must Visit List” – of hand-selected links are chosen for their unique approaches and valuable insights/information in health. They are well worth your time to browse.
As a health hero to kids…my dream is to see physically active children that believe it’s “cooler” to be fit and active…than hanging out for endless hours on the computer, watching television, or playing video games…while mindlessly eating junk food.

We need you! The world is changing and it doesn’t seem for the better. The future of our children doesn’t look all that good. The food supply is one of the most technologically advance. Yet, it is the cause of premature aging, and seems to be a formula for profit, not health.
This isn’t a time for a white-glove approach, we need to rally the troops.
Thanks for your wonderful article! It has been extremely insightful. I hope that you will continue sharing your wisdom with us.
Received your marching orders today at the ymca. Feel like one of those guys smoking at the bar making fun of those healthy freaks when I think of me (a red meat lover) teasing those on plant based diets. Thanks for helping me crawl out of the fox hole and keep on fighting, this time with kevlar.
Just stay aware of the disinformation from the Enemies of Health (and there are many)…and you’ll be a tremendous soldier, saving lives, in the General Healthy Army!
My grandson just recently switched schools. He moved across town. Seems like they have heard your message at the new school. He is deathly allergic to milk and chocolate so there was always a problem at his other school with the snacks that were brought in. Now his parents no longer have to worry about him eating the worry things. The snacks are fruits and veggies.
Seems like just moving across town in some areas can make such a difference. Some schools just get it.
Carol – I also have a son with milk allergies. I’m very worried about when he starts school. It’s been hard enough with his older brother’s peanut/tree nut/egg allergies. Milk is so much harder to avoid.
I plan on just sending my boys to school with their own lunches that I make to avoid the unhealthy school lunches and potential allergens.
General Healthy,
Thanks for your help with busting some myths. When we understand more about the misleading information and underlying motivation with marketing certain food types, and the falacies some nutritionists report, it helps us all to read nutrition info more carefully. Your no nonsense approach to digesting the overwhleming amount of info is truly helpful. Some schools are aiming to provide nutrition education to kids and parents, but it is often not really healthy at all.
